ORPHAN CARE.
Due to the crippling effects of extreme poverty and disease in South
Asia, millions of children are orphaned,
falling victim to child prostitution, human trafficking or forced labor.
Peace Gospel's orphanage in Nepal acts as a safe harbor in the midst of this
darkness, offering orphans a way out of the dead-end of despair and
hunger. Although we do not yet have our own school, the children are
escorted to a nearby school where they receive a quality education, and
their studies are enhanced by a computer lab recently installed on
campus. Through the work of our organization, these precious children
are provided a loving home centered on Biblical principals.

ANTI-TRAFFICKING AND REHABILITATION PROGRAM.
In addition to offering a safe harbor for at-risk orphan girls at
our orphanage home in Kathmandu, Peace Gospel has also been conducting a
human trafficking awareness campaign in Nepal. We've been focusing our
latest efforts on the Rupandehi district, an area especially susceptible
to traffickers due to its proximity to the Indian border. Our goal is to train young girls and their families how to avoid the tricks of the
traffickers' false promises and deceptive offers. We also operate a rehabilitation center in Kathmandu, home to several young Nepali ladies rescued from Mumbai brothels.
There they receive counseling, learn to read and write, and become proficient in several craft-making skills.

WOMEN'S CRAFT BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT.
Amidst its natural beauty and tourist destinations, one would not think
of Nepal as place of extreme poverty. However, the UN includes Nepal on
its well-known list of "50 Least Developed Nations." More than 50% of
the population is getting by on less than $1 per day. To address the
problem, our Nepal team maintains a women's skill & business
development program in impoverished areas in the Himalayas. The program
offers training workshops to train women in skills of basket weaving,
bag making, jewelry making and candle making. Due to very low rates of electricity
coverage in the remote towns and villages of Nepal, candle making is
very profitable. Our program is offering graduates candle making molds
and enough supplies to get their home-based businesses off the ground,
all at a cost of only $29 per participant. |
