Uganda Rural School Makeover Fund.
HELP GIVE THEM A CHANCE. In Uganda, the rainy season is fast approaching. Our newest school in the Mayuge District of southeastern Uganda is merely a makeshift dirt-floor, mud-and-thatch construction. It's a structure that provides shade and classroom space— a humble effort to offer destitute children a chance at a quality eduction. However, when the rains come, we will have to close the school because the roof and mud-thatched walls will not suffice. Thus we're establishing this fund to build a very basic, yet proper and strong school building for these children.
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." —Anne Frank

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM. The government is able to do very little in terms of educating the destitute children of this extremely impoverished area of Uganda. Most are not able to pay the fees for materials and in many cases the parents view sending their children to school as a loss of labor availability. This school was started with the hope that we can make a difference in the lives of these children by offering them a quality education as well as two meals per day. The school currently has 4 staff members and 50 children enrolled. We provide all of their school supplies in a nurturing atmosphere. Our school teachers are passionate about equipping these children with a solid education in an environment based on Biblical principals.

BACKGROUND ON OUR WORK IN UGANDA. For the past several years our native team in Uganda has been reaching out to the destitute population of the Mayuge District, third poorest of Uganda's 74 districts, where 50% of the population is under the age of 15. The district was the site of the infamous sleeping sickness epidemic in the 1950s, during which the government declared the area a no-man's land and drove out the entire population. Since the 1970s the community has been slowly rebuilding from scratch and as a result seems behind the curve in what is already a very underdeveloped nation. Operating a 3-acre farmland enterprise, we've equipped our team with a piggery and other resources to empower and multiply their efforts. Our efforts are currently focused on reaching out to orphans, destitute women and children, and those who lack access to clean water.
